Litigation Section

The Litigation Section provides a forum for civil trial attorneys to hone their advocacy skills, network and socialize. It presents seminars on trial practice featuring the county’s fast track judges and its most senior practitioners in live demonstrations on the art and science of trial practice.

The section sponsors programs of interest for civil practitioners of all experience levels and abilities. In past years, the Litigation Section has sponsored presentations regarding use of technology in the courtroom, jury trials, complex issues in breach of contract cases, taking and defending depositions, ADR, and litigating in federal court.

The section also facilitates dialogue with the local Superior Court bench to keep pace with changing court procedure (including e-filing and related administrative developments) and ensures the efficient and fair administration of justice.

Members receive discounts to Litigation Section programs. For more information or if you have an interest in joining the board of directors, please contact Geoffrey Steele.

EXPEDITED JURY TRIALS boldly go where no lawyer had gone before. The California Legislature adopted Civil Procedure Code section 630.01 et seq, authorizing Expedited Jury Trials. The Administrative Office of the Court has created the attached PowerPoint which provides a concise explanation of the rules and processes for conducting such a trial.

For background information on the new procedures refer to the Judicial Council report on the EJT proposal.
