CCCBA Sections

Our sections offer leadership opportunities and MCLE, social, mentoring and networking events tailored to different practice areas, geographical locations and members’ interests. Visit your section of interest to find out what’s on deck.

Alternative Dispute Resolution

This section promotes the use of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) as an accessible, effective, faster and more economical means of resolving most disputes.

Appellate

The Appellate section works to improve appellate advocacy and hosts periodic MCLE seminars to enrich members’ understanding of the appellate process and issues.

Bankruptcy Law

This section supports attorneys who practice in bankruptcy court and non-attorneys who provide support to the bankruptcy bar. MCLE events are held three to five times per year and feature bankruptcy judges and trustees, attorneys and other professionals.

Barristers / Young Lawyers

Attorneys with fewer than ten years of practice are automatically enrolled in this section, which promotes networking, education and mentoring opportunities.

Business Law

This section provides the latest information on issues facing business lawyers (whether outside counsel or in-house counsel) and provides a basis for corporations taking advantage of the many new initiatives for business growth and development.

Criminal Law

The Criminal Law section's goal is to provide practical assistance to criminal defense attorneys in motions, trial practice, and case management. Lunchtime MCLE meetings offer continuing education on such topics as new statutes, case law and technology.

East County

Elder Law

The Elder Law section keeps attorneys informed about Elder Law issues and presents monthly Conservatorship Workshops as a joint project with the Superior Court.

Employment

With members representing both employees and employer/management, this section offers MCLE events and legal aid workshops.

Estate Planning & Probate

The Estate Planning & Probate section is known for its annual Probate Bench Luncheon in January and annual Estate Planning Symposium in the spring. It holds numerous programs for practicing attorneys, private professional fiduciaries, accounting practitioners, trust officers and law students all year long.

Family Law

The Family Law Section has a long and respected history with the court. Members are invited to monthly educational seminars and receive early notification of changes in rules or practice requirements in family law departments. The annual State of the Court meeting and programs with local family law judges are highlights of the year.

Intellectual Property

The IP Section is on the cutting edge of changes in the law that impact all areas of business. Members meet approximately eight times each year to learn, share, network and strengthen their expertise in IP.

Juvenile Law

The Juvenile Law section provides brown bag lunch MCLE programs on topics such as case law and statutory reviews, techniques on interviewing children, immigration laws and their effect on dependent children, and recognizing and treating substance abuse.

Law Student

Section members can expand their law school education in significant ways that serve the community and yield practical legal experience.

Litigation

This section provides a forum for civil trial attorneys to hone their advocacy skills, socialize with fellow attorneys and expand their professional network.

Real Estate

Members enjoy monthly breakfast MCLE programs and networking activities related to various aspects of real estate law.

Senior Section

The Senior Section was formed in January 2019 to serve the interests of the senior attorneys of the CCCBA. Events include Law Day and other educational and social events throughout the year.

Solo Practice & Small Firm

The Solo Practice & Small Firm Practice section provides opportunities for sole practitioners to enjoy camaraderie, networking, and exchange practice management information. The section hosts regular breakfast meetings for its members and organizes other social and MCLE activities.

Taxation

This section’s members meet regularly with tax agency leaders, skilled practitioners and legal scholars to discuss changes in tax laws and administration.

Women’s Section

With attorneys practicing in all areas of the law, this section furthers the advancement of women in the legal profession and the judiciary.
