The Litigation Section was formed in 1997 as a forum for civil trial attorneys to foster collegiality and hone advocacy skills. Preceded by the Litigation College Seminar Series in 1996, this section has presented seminars on trial practice featuring the county's Fast Track judges and its most senior practitioners in live demonstrations on the art and science of trial practice. The section continues to sponsor programs of interest for civil trial practitioners of all experience levels and abilities. For example, the section has, in past years, sponsored presentations regarding use of technology in the courtroom, jury trials (at the 2003 MCLE Spectacular), and complex issues in breach of contract cases (at the 2005 MCLE Spectacular). In 2006, the section co-sponsored a series of programs with the Barristers Section on conducting jury trials. It will also continue to look for ways to maintain and improve itself as a place for litigators to obtains up-to-date information regarding all aspects of litigation and to socialize and network. The section also facilitates an ongoing dialogue with the Superior Court bench to keep pace with changing court procedures (including e-filing and related administrative developments) and ensure the efficient and fair administration of justice. Section membership is $25 annually. Members obtain advance notice of
and discounts to the section's programs and publications. Affiliates are not allowed.
